The fight against crime in Mandeville got a significant boost recently following a million-dollar donation towards the installation cost of the town's CCTV system by State Minister for Local Government, Robert Montague. Mr. Montague was recently in Mandeville to meet with the local Parish Councillors to discuss matters affecting the parish. Mr. Montague also took the opportunity to tour the monitoring room for the CCTV system, which is now up and running and is being operated by personnel from the Mandeville Police, following extensive training.
This contribution is welcomed news as the Manchester Chamber of Commerce seeks innovative ways to fund the outstanding $2 million balance on the cost of installation of this innovative security system, which is even more important today as the parish struggles with increased levels of robbery and break-ins, seemingly linked to the current economic downturn plaguing the nation. The Minister has also committed to fund an additional camera to extend the coverage area of the CCTV system.
